The science behind Polygiene BioMasterTM

If you work in an industry such as healthcare or food and catering, cleanliness is a key consideration when using everything from paper and textiles to solid surfaces. Polygiene BioMaster™ is an effective anti-bacterial additive technology that inhibits the growth of bacteria and microbes on treated surfaces, making your product more hygienic.

Using pioneering silver-based antimicrobial additives that can be included at any stage of the manufacturing process, the properties are locked into your product, delivering effective protection against microbes and bacteria for the lifetime of the item.

Effective prevention at the molecular level

Polygiene BioMaster works at the molecular level, inhibiting the growth of bacteria and preventing them from replicating or producing energy. Using silver ions as its key active component, it is an incredibly durable and long-lasting solution.

The active ingredient is present across the surface of the product, providing maximum protection against bacterial procreation.

The process

When bacteria land on a treated surface, Polygiene BioMaster bonds with the cell walls, disrupting any growth at the source. The silver ions stop the cell from producing any energy by interfering with enzyme production within the cell nuclei. It also interrupts the cell’s DNA, preventing it from reproducing.

A second line of defence against bacteria

While Polygiene BioMaster is an effective bacterial preventative, it works best with other cleaning processes. It creates an inbuilt surface protection action that works even when the surface is not being cleaned using other methods, delivering 24/7 protection.

Safe and stable

Because it is integrated into a product, Polygiene BioMaster is safe to use in a wide range of applications, including the healthcare industry, food and catering, and the water industry. It is food safe.

Independently tested

Polygiene BioMaster has been independently tested to ISO 22196. However, our partners must carry out their own independent ISO testing of all and any product using BioMaster. These need to comply with the legislation of the country the product is being sold in and must be carried out by an independent laboratory. Please note that requirements differ from the UK and Europe and the United States.

Safety standards

Polygiene BioMasterTM is registered with Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) in the UK and Europe, as well as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Polygiene BioMaster uses silver as its key active component. This has been rigorously tested over the years and is safe to use in almost all applications, including food and drink. BioMaster is integrated into the product and does not leach. It does not include any nanotechnology.

No. BioMaster is anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. It is NOT anti-viral, although it has been tested against two common viruses – SARS-CoV-2 (causing Covid-19) and Norovirus. Results are unconfirmed. Polygiene BioMaster is effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as Methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE).

Plastics – Suitable for almost all plastics and polymers providing effective protection against bacteria, biofilm, mold, and fungi. It is suitable for almost all standard thermoplastics, engineering plastics and high-performance plastics including Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP) and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Grades are also available for Polystyrene (PS), Polyethylene (PE), Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), Polyurethane (PU) and Silicones.

Paper – Polygiene BioMaster can be added to uncoated paper or board, making it particularly useful in the food industry. It can also be added to treated paper by using a size press technique.

Paints and coatings – Polygiene BioMaster is easily added to any water, solvent or oil-based paints or coatings, rendering surfaces resistant to bacteria. It can also be added to powder coating for high-traffic areas using thermoplastic-based powder coatings. It will not affect the finish, pigmentation or end colour of the product and will not leach.

Textiles – Polygiene BioMaster can be incorporated into textiles without affecting the characteristics of the material. It can be used in any fibre manufacturing process including PA (Nylon), PE (Polypropylene) PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and PP (Polypropylene) melt blend textiles.

Flexible films – Polygiene BioMaster integrates easily into flexible film, making it especially practical for the food industry. It inhibits the development of bacteria such as E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella and Campylobacter.

Surfaces – Because it is integrated into the surface, the effectiveness of Polygiene BioMaster is not dissipated over time. It continues to provide 24/7 protection against the proliferation of bacteria. It is particularly effective in the prevention of Listeria microbes which are commonly found in food preparation areas.
