‘Redbacks’, a multi-award winning, non-foam, safety kneepad is the first on the market to have built-in Biomaster antimicrobial protection; this attacks micro-organisms and the growth of odour-causing bacteria at source, helping to protect the wearer from knee infection and prevent the spread of disease within the workplace.
Having to kneel in any work situation can increase the risk of developing and spreading germs caused by heat and accumulated, absorbed dirt. The inherent ‘Biomaster’ antimicrobial qualities therefore make the kneepads especially important for use in such places as hospitals, care-homes, schools, the food service industry, public places and the home, where hygiene is paramount.
The kneepads are the result of a patented design termed ‘Redbacks Cushioning Technology’ which is based on a soft and flexible TPE (Thermo Plastic Elastomer) leaf-spring, set within a unique honeycomb matrix; this ensures that there is no friction danger of skin abrasion caused by internal shear forces within the knee surface which can be extremely destructive and damaging to tissue, leading to impaired blood flow, pain, tissue breakdown and pressure sores.
The antimicrobial action of Biomaster is silver ion technology.Silver is a natural antimicrobial and has been used for centuries to prevent the growth of bacteria.
Biomaster works to kill bacteria in three ways. Silver ions built into the surface of the product bind to and damage the bacteria cell wall preventing growth; they stop bacteria from producing energy and interrupt the DNA, preventing replication. If a bacteria cell cannot grow, produce energy or replicate, it dies.
Biomaster is inorganic, and because it’s added at the time of manufacture, becomes an integral part of the kneepad so it can’t leach out or be washed off.
Unlike their foam-based counterparts, the ‘Redbacks Cushioning Technology’ returns the kneepads to their original form after prolonged pressure, offering the same high level of protection every time, helping to prevent knee, leg, ankle and foot injury, by elevating the knees and evenly distributing body weight. This also allows fresh air to circulate to either cool or heat to body temperature.
Voted ‘Winner 2012 – SATRA Best Innovation in Occupational PPE’, the washable Redbacks kneepads are fully CE approved and the first and only in the World to use leaf-spring technology, bringing unrivalled relief from pain or discomfort either during or as a result of kneeling.
