With the keeping of chickens becoming increasingly popular in the UK, leading pet food innovator Unipet has launched two new solutions with our Biomaster Protection, an antimicrobial additive built-in to the plastic parts to safeguard against a range of harmful bacteria.
Added at the point of manufacturer, Biomaster Protection is a silver-based antimicrobial additive that has been independently tested to reduce levels of harmful bacteria by more than 99%. For people keeping chickens, it is important to safeguard against bacteria inherently carried by the animals such E.coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter.
This is particularly prudent for families with young children coming into contact with these pets, as these bacteria may lead to illness in youngsters.
Unipet’s ‘Hentastic’ range will now offer a Biomaster Protected Foraging Pellet Feeder and antimicrobial Hydration Station. Both products are suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and can be used standing or hung on a wall or partition.
Paul Butler, Sales Manager for Unipet, explains more about the new products: “For families keeping chickens, it’s vital to keep everyone safe from harmful bacteria. As well as protecting those touching the feeders, as with any pet, feeders and water stations will need to be washed – most likely in the household kitchen.
“This creates a risk of spreading bacteria to kitchen sides, sinks and work surfaces, but thanks to the antimicrobial action of Biomaster Protection this risk is severely reduced. Introducing Biomaster Protection into the products was so simple, yet it will reduce the risk of cross contamination – so it made perfect sense.
”As most chicken feeders and water stations are kept outside, they are vulnerable to the elements and accessible to wild animals such as birds, rats and mice. Biomaster Protection also ensures that risk of transfer of potentially harmful bacteria from these animals to chickens is reduced.
As well as protecting against the main bacteria carried by chickens, the Biomaster protection safeguards against many other harmful bacteria. This protection is active for the full life of the product.
