Warwick SASCo uses Biomaster to help prevent HCAIs

UK-based Warwick SASCo, a family owned manufacturer of re-usable polyware for hospitals for over thirty years, has introduced a range of antimicrobial holders for pulp bed pan products. The holders are designed for use in hospital wards, nursing and care homes rehabilitation and for personal use at home.

The Spa long life, re-usable polypropylene Slipper Pan and Bed Pan Supports, for lying down and seated patients respectively, have the added benefit of Biomaster antimicrobial technology, proven to reduce the growth of MRSA, VRE, ESBL, E.coli, Salmonella, Legionella and over 50 other species of harmful bacteria by up to 99.99%.

According to Nicola Morgan, Marketing Manager at Warwick SASCo, ‘The uniforms, clothing, laboratory coats and even isolation gowns of healthcare workers emptying bed or slipper pans can easily be exposed to potential pathogens. The introduction of Biomaster into our pan supports provides an additional level of protection in hygiene critical environments against the spread of HCAIs’.

The active ingredient in Biomaster is silver, a natural antimicrobial that has been used for centuries to prevent the growth of bacteria. Even today, silver is used in gels to treat serious burns and in coated dressings to aid wound healing.    Biomaster does not contain nano-silver and can be added into any plastic, paper, textile, paint or coating and works to kill bacteria in three ways. Silver ions built into the surface of the product bind to the bacteria cell wall preventing growth; they stop bacteria from producing energy and interrupt the DNA preventing replication. If a bacteria cell cannot grow, produce energy or replicate, it dies.

Biomaster is inorganic, and because it’s added at the time of manufacture, becomes an integral part of the pan supports so it can’t leach out or be washed off.

The Spa Bed Pan and Spa Slipper Pan supports are manufactured from virgin grade material, are lightweight, strong and durable and ideal for patients confined to bed due to illness or surgery. They can be cleaned in automatic washer disinfectors or hand washed and their smooth surface ensures both ease of use and cleaning.
