World’s leading supplier of medical gas equipment relies on Biomaster

BeaconMedæs, the world’s leading specialist in the design, supply and installation of piped medical gas distribution systems in hospitals around the world relies on Biomaster antimicrobial technology for their flagship product - the GEM 10.

The GEM 10 medical gas terminal unit has a proven service record and is available in a wide range of mounting options, connection types and orientations to suit installations in walls, bedhead trunking, headwalls, theatre and intensive care pendant systems.

Biomaster antimicrobial technology, a range of unique formulations blended specifically for each end application to provide maximum performance and durability, has been added in all user accessible parts to actively reduce the growth of harmful such as bacteria E.coli, MRSA, Salmonella, Legionella and over 50 other species of harmful bacteria by up to 99.99% thus limiting the chance of cross infection.

The active ingredient in Biomaster is silver, a natural antimicrobial that has been used for centuries to prevent the growth of bacteria. Even today, silver is used in gels to treat serious burns and in coated dressings to aid wound healing. Biomaster can be added into any plastic, paper, textile, paint or coating and works to kill bacteria in three ways. Silver ions built into the surface of the product bind to and damage the bacteria cell wall preventing growth; they stop bacteria from producing energy and interrupt the DNA preventing replication. If a bacteria cell cannot grow, produce energy or replicate, it dies.

Biomaster is inorganic, and because it’s added at the time of manufacture, becomes an integral part of the kneepad so it can’t leach out or be washed off.

Andy Tudor, Head of Marketing at BeaconMedæs states “We are proud to play such a vital role in sustaining patients when they are at their most vulnerable and the use of Biomaster antimicrobial technology is a demonstration of our commitment to helping protect patents from the threat of cross contamination in these hygiene critical environments”.

For more than 60 years BeaconMedæs has been meeting the need for the increasingly complex array of life support equipment that is at the heart of the modern hospital. Today they operate through local and regional distributors in over 40 countries.
