Flexion Optical Fibre Limited, manufacturer of sensory optical fibre applications, has teamed up with additive experts Addmaster to enhance its range of PolymerSparkle soft plastic sensory harnesses.
PolymerSparkle harnesses are used in sensory learning exploration and special educational needs applications such as multisensory environments to stimulate children with learning disabilities. They also have a calming influence on stress or anxiety for adults.
From today, Flexion’s entire range of soft plastic sensory products will be treated with Addmaster’s Biomaster antimicrobial technology making them more hygienic and helping prevent the risk of cross contamination.
According to Steve Lewis of Flexion, “Considering the environment where they are used, we believed offering PolymerSparkle with lasting antimicrobial protection gave us a clear competitive advantage. In fact, Flexion is the market leader in manufacturing sensory optical fibre with antimicrobial technology”.
Addmaster are the experts in performance additives and its antimicrobial Biomaster brand, a range of unique formulations blended specifically for each end application to provide maximum performance and durability, can be added into any plastic, paper, textile, paint or coating. Treated products have been proven to reduce the growth of E.coli, MRSA, Salmonella, Legionella and over 50 other species of harmful bacteria by up to 99.99%.
The active ingredient in Biomaster is silver, a natural antimicrobial that has been used for centuries to prevent the growth of bacteria. Added during manufacture, Biomaster becomes an integral part of the finished product so it can’t leach out or wash off providing antimicrobial protection for its intended lifetime.
To complement the stimulation of sight and touch amongst those with special needs, Flexion’s PolymerSparkle now offers stimulation to the sense of smell. Addmaster’s Scentmaster has been used to replace the unpleasant smell of plastic with a vanilla fragrance.
Paul Morris, Managing Director of Addmaster comments “This is a great example of combining the properties of both Biomaster and Scentmaster in one product. Biomaster will give the comfort of antimicrobial protection and the unique manufacturing process for Scentmaster ensures that all the subtle tones of the fragrance are kept, making the sensory experience more stimulating.”
The Vanilla PolymerSparkle has a standard Phthalates free sheathing and is REACH compliant. Scentmaster complies with EN71 Toy Regulations.
Flexion fibre optic components are used in fields such as medicine, instrumentation, museums, stage and theatre and special needs.
*Please note that Addmaster was acquired by the Polygiene Group AB in January 2021, so all news articles prior to that date will still be branded as Addmaster.
