One the UK’s biggest supermarkets is offering its customers product protection against potentially harmful bacteria by introducing an innovative new reusable bag range.
Asda has become the latest retail giant to feature antibacterial technology in its ‘Bags for Life’, which are available across 525 stores nationwide.
Biomaster antibacterial technology is incorporated in the entire Asda bag range and helps reduce opportunities for cross-contamination and therefore minimise the potential for the spread of dangerous bacteria, including Campylobacter.
A study by Professor Anthony Hilton, head of Biological and Biomedical Science at Aston University, highlighted how reusing unprotected carrier bags for a diverse range of contents could put consumers at risk of bacterial contamination.
An Asda spokesperson said: “Our newly-designed range of reusable bags provides improved customer appeal and ease of packing and carrying, while featuring the new antibacterial lining to meet the needs of our shoppers.
We searched the market for a provider of this innovative technology and in Addmaster we found a market-leading partner we were happy to collaborate with.”
Paul Morris, Addmaster CEO, said: “Reusable bags have become a convenient and useful accessory for carrying just about anything. Versatilely has benefits but it could also result in the bags being a haven for bacteria, fungi or moulds to grow and in worse cases have a detrimental effect on an individual’s health.
The Biomaster protected bags will provide Asda customers with added peace of mind and reduce the spread, growth or even cross-contamination of any unwanted bacteria.”
The Asda reusable bag collection comprises three new designs in varying sizes, as well as a cool bag, each featuring a Biomaster antibacterial lining.
Paul added: “Asda already stocks the Biomaster-protected dispensers for its own-brand product line of cling film, baking foil and parchment paper, as well as using our brand Scentmaster within its refuse bag range to mask unwanted odours.
We are delighted to extend our partnership with Asda by adding Biomaster in its Bags for Life range.”
Asda is the third UK supermarket to incorporate Biomaster protected Bags for Life.
*Please note that Addmaster was acquired by the Polygiene Group AB in January 2021, so all news articles prior to that date will still be branded as Addmaster.
