The technology
Polygiene Shedguard is an in-development textile finishing compound being designed to reduce microfiber loss of textile fabrics during washing, as well as improve resistance to fabric wear. On certain knits, the technology has shown a microfiber shedding reduction of up to 70%.
The science
Polygiene ShedGuard is based on a unique blend of polymers engineered to reduce microfiber loss of textile fabrics during washing.
The unique polymer technology forms a sheath around the fiber bundles to prevent micro-fibrils from separating during wear and the subsequent washing and drying cycles.
Polygiene ShedGuard is currently being tested to the AATCC TM 212 standard to ensure a globally recognised measure of success.
Yes, Polygiene ShedGuard does not contain harmful chemicals, is formaldehyde free, APEO free and is compliant with FDA regulations 21 CFR.
Yes, it can. Polygiene ShedGuard is being developed with compatibility in mind. It is currently being tested along with the most common auxiliaries used in textile finishing. Also, when used as directed, will not typically cause shade changes nor affect color fastness. Polygiene ShedGuard does not have any significant impact on hydrophilicity and has minimal effect on the hand feel.
Benefits of Polygiene SHEDGUARD
All fabric and fiber types shed during laundering, so any technology that reduces fiber fragment release is a net positive.
We’ve achieved great results across many fabrics, including recycled poly/polyester knits, poly-cottons, nylons, suede microfibers, plush fabrics, and more. This includes staple and filament fibers.
Microfiber shedding reduction on knits of up to 70% has been demonstrated in testing, and figures between 15% to 30% have been noted on wovens.
While staple fibers release more than filament fibers, we can reduce the shedding of both.
In short, Polygiene ShedGuard microfiber shedding reduction technology improves the lifespan of treated fabrics by reducing fabric abrasion and wear.
Some tests had shown microfiber shedding reduction of microfiber loss by as much as 80%.
Improves the lifespan of treated fabrics by reducing fabric abrasion and wear.
It works well with a wide range of auxiliaries typically used in textile finishing, ranging from weakly cationic to anionic.
Our Polygiene ShedGuard fabric shedding reduction solution is being developed to work in tandem with StayFresh, StayFresh BIO and OdorCrunch.
Based on a unique blend of polymers.
Easily applied via padding. Does not have any significant impact to hydrophilicity.
Has a minimal effect on hand feel that can be easily mitigated via use of commonly used softeners.
“The development of this pioneering technology is an important cornerstone towards a more sustainable textile industry. Therefore, we are focusing on driving the project forward with our specialists within the team, pooling and consolidating expertise from different areas and cooperating closely with partner brands. In its unique position, Polygiene is both a driving force of innovation and a key link for the industry. We are aware of this position, responsibility and opportunity and are leading the project with confidence and strength.” Ulrika Björk CEO of Polygiene
