To learn more about the brand, why it values Polygiene technology, and how it’s making its production processes more sustainable, we caught up with Robert Hart, Bunker Mentality’s Co-Founder and Owner.
Our relationship goes all the way back to 2017, when we became the first golf brand to work with Polygiene and incorporate its odor-control technologies into on-course apparel. At the time, we were visiting a factory in Thailand and met with the local Polygiene agent. They did a great job communicating the benefits, and it was clear the technology would add significant value for our customers. We’ve been using Polygiene StayFresh in our polo shirts ever since.
Golf courses are created and crafted from the natural environment. If we don’t look after the planet, we won’t have the raw resources to play our sport. So caring for the earth and shifting towards more sustainable manufacturing processes seem like very obvious things for a golf brand to do. Recently, we introduced our unique ‘on-demand, one-piece’ production system. It enabled us to produce our stylish products to the same high standards while cutting our carbon footprint dramatically.
Over the last three years, we’ve gradually reduced our production order sizes down. By refining the manufacturing process in this way, we could introduce new designs approximately every six weeks and keep customers engaged and excited about regular fresh arrivals.
From there, moving to an on-demand production model was a logical next step. This approach means manufacturing is driven entirely by customer demand, eliminating stock issues, preventing waste, and ensuring each customer’s order is made to their precise specifications, including an exact size as we now offer each polo in a choice of 3 lengths. With no need for sizable stock inventories or warehousing, we can offer a broader range of designs and respond to trends and customer preferences far more quickly. Actually we will be offering one of our core polos in around 20 different colour options. We just launched a womans performance polo collection of 20 designs all because we produce ‘On Demand’. Over the next few weeks we are looking at launching into an entirely different sports such as tennis and gym and others latter in the year.
Polygiene technology enhances a product’s durability and sustainability, significantly enhancing its value. The ‘Wear More, Wash Less’ approach means golfers can get multiple rounds out of a single top without worrying about washing. It works particularly well as golf is generally less sweaty than other sports.
Washing the tops less frequently is more convenient and great for golfers heading away on a golf trip or holiday. But it also saves water, detergent, and electricity, while extending the polo’s expected lifespan. Coupled with our on-demand production model, Polygiene StayFresh contributes to a more sustainable way of producing golf apparel and all sportswear.
We use Polygiene swing tags on our polo shirts and highlight the Polygiene logo on every relevant website product page. Polygiene gets regular mentions in our customer emails, too. We want to keep the technology top-of-mind because customers really do appreciate and value it.
