With a long and fascinating history, Dr. Scholl’s is one of the most recognisable and respected names in footwear and footcare, designing and manufacturing products that eliminate fatigue, discomfort, and pain in the feet to improve mobility and quality of life for users. In recent years, the brand has partnered with Polygiene™ to further enhance product performance and introduce an odor-control element to Dr Scholl’s shoe insoles.
A STORIED HISTORY AND LASTING LEGACY
Founded in 1906 by Dr. William Mathias Scholl, the son of a dairy farmer who left rural Indiana to work as an apprentice at a Chicago shoemaker’s shop at 16, Dr. Scholl’s boasts more than 115 years of experience designing groundbreaking footwear products. Over much of that history, the company has operated according to a simple maxim – ‘when your feet hurt, you hurt all over.’ As such, it has dedicated itself to resolving foot health issues and has brought more than 1,000 foot care products to market over the last century.
Dr. William Scholl’s global vision has seen the brand expand operations to countries around the world, and also resulted in the creation of the Dr. Scholl Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing financial assistance to organizations committed to improving our world. In this respect, the brand is certainly aligned with Polygiene’s Mindful Living philosophy.
POLYGIENE X DR. SCHOLL’S
In many ways, Polygiene and Dr. Scholl’s are a match made in heaven. The feet are notoriously odorous, and footwear products have often struggled to combat issues associated with bacterial and environmental odors. By integrating our Polygiene StayFresh™ and Polygiene OdorCrunch™ solutions into Dr. Scholl’s insoles, the brand ensures its customers benefit from products that stay fresher for longer and need washing less frequently. While this is more convenient for consumers, it also improves product longevity by avoiding the wear and tear associated with washing machines.
Having first introduced Polygiene technology in 2018, Dr. Scholl’s is now an established, long-term Polygiene partner and a brand we’ve worked closely with to ensure our solutions deliver maximum value to the business and its customers. This has included marketing and sales support and close collaboration on innovation opportunities and e-commerce content.
THE BENEFITS OF POLYGIENE TECHNOLOGY
It is estimated that around 368 million people around the world suffer from extreme foot odor (IHS), and research has demonstrated that the soles of the feet feature approximately 250,000 sweat glands. So it’s no wonder that a lot of consumers are concerned about their feet producing unpleasant smells.
Crucially, it’s not the sweat itself that’s the cause of unpleasant odors. Instead, it’s the proliferation of bacteria that thrive in dark and moist environments. These bacteria produce the bad smells as part of their metabolic process. As such, antibacterial treatments like Polygiene StayFresh can have a significant impact on odors.
Polygiene StayFresh uses a skin-safe silver-based formula that binds to the bacterial cell wall to prevent growth, interferes with enzymes to hamper energy production, and disrupts cellular replication, so bacteria can’t proliferate. In doing so, it stops the bad smells at the source, leaving users feeling less self-aware and more confident.
